Habitat Surveys

The JNCC developed the Phase 1 Habitat Survey to give a rapid, catch-all assessment of large areas of land

A Phase 1 Habitat Survey is a technique used to audit our environment in order to classify & map rural & urban wildlife habitats in the UK. They are designed to enable a relatively fast record of semi-natural vegetation & wildlife habitat over larger areas. Once mapped, Habitat Areas are measured, Target Notes are identified & Statistics are recorded to the extent & distribution of each habitat type. Also referred to as a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, a Phase 1 Habitat Survey is a catch-all assessment for a variety of species of flora and fauna & are usually undertaken between April & September.

eagle eye design undertakes Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys to enable planners respond quickly to planning applications while helping in the production & evaluation of Environmental Impact Assessments & the development of countryside strategies. Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys can save time & money by providing knowledge that will enable planners & developers avoid the problems associated with complex environmental issues.
